Pre-eminent Canadian paediatrician puts life's work into a groundbreaking new book
Dr. Mickey Lester releases his first book to educate and empower parents about baby and child-care

TORONTO, ON (June 5, 2012) - Armed with more than 40 years of medical experience and just two months shy of his 74th birthday, noted Canadian paediatrician Dr. Mickey Lester today released his first book entitled, "Say AAAH": A Common Sense A to Z Guide to those 'AAAHsome' Years, Newborn to Age 5.

"This book represents more than 25 years of effort," says Dr. Lester. "It stems from conversations, observations, tips and advice that I've dispensed to nervous parents for decades. It is meant to reassure parents, help them self-educate and keep them sane when it comes to the variety of questions that surround their baby's health and well-being."

"Say AAAH" is a comprehensive publication, covering more than 1,000 topics including common issues, health conditions and other concerns that parents of children between birth and five years of age may face.

"I wish I'd been given this practical guide to baby care at the maternity ward of the hospital," says Catherine Black, new mom and Assistant Professor, Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD). In "Say AAAH", Dr. Lester dispenses clear, invaluable advice in his signature nononsense manner. It's obvious that he's had decades of experience dealing with anxious new parents, as he routinely anticipates the next question in a way that puts a parent at ease. I particularly appreciate that I don't have to wade through lots of text to get to the answer I'm looking for. It's the next best thing to a doctor's visit."

Crafted with the busy new parent in mind, "Say AAAH" features alphabetized topics and themes for easy reference, simple definitions of medical terms, as well as more than 150 photographs to illustrate certain health conditions common to infants and young children.

"Even though newborns have always been somewhat of a mystery, parents today seem to be gripped by so much anxiety when it comes to their infant, which can often be counterproductive, " says Dr. Lester. "Through its content, language and layout, this book is created to allay some of those fears, give parents the information and confidence to ask pertinent questions of their child's health care provider and to help parents make well-informed decisions about their child's health."

During a career spanning more than four decades, Dr. Lester has had more than 300,000 visits to his paediatric practice. In addition to being a consulting physician at Sick Kids, and a frequent media contributor, Dr. Lester currently runs a private and consultant practice in Mississauga, Ontario.
